Horse Accomodations
Whether you are hiking or riding horses along the Buffalo River Trail (BRT) you can see a huge variety of interesting dwellings. Adventurers can admire the first settler’s camp to the remains of the oldest homesteads. You can visit Granny Henderson’s home, the last little lady that lived along the river. Granny herself rafted down the river to visit her old home for years after she moved off the land she loved. Everywhere you look there are remnants of the past, old homes, schoolhouses, barns and churches. You can feel the history and the energy that surrounds the Buffalo River.
Enjoy caves, mountains, and bluff top views. I have heard it said that many of these views were in the “wrong place” that Arkansas doesn’t’ have this type of scenery. It is almost as if they were moved here from way out west.
There are numerous waterfalls, creeks and springs. Many of the falls are famous and can be recognized from photography, paintings and sketches in magazines and books published around the world. I have never heard of a visitor being disappointed in the landscape & scenery. Most encounter a sense of awe and wanting to know what is around the next turn of the trail or bend of the river. It doesn’t matter how you enjoy it, whether you are a hiker, floater or horseback rider, it is about the experience of nature and you.
So if you are not the outdoors type & you don’t think you fall into the above categories. You can still share a passion for the river, peace & quiet and clean air. Take a leisurely drive through the mountains with the windows down or on your bike with the wind in your face. We have great roads for motorcycling! There are many scenic highways, including Highway 7, that are famous for their views & curves. Leave early & take your time, you will not be disappointed.
Remember no matter what your schedule the Buffalo National River is a place to visit in all seasons. It just depends on what type of adventure you have in mind and when you prefer to visit. Please let us know if you have any questions. Oh and if the weather is not right today, just stick around till tomorrow.
Barn/Stalls are a convenience for our guests. It is your stall, your horse, and your responsibility to feed & water your horse as well as taking care of your animal. Guests are responsible for any & all damages caused by your animal, such as cribbing etc. If your animal needs special arrangements just let us know ahead of time.
Always be aware that here will be other animals, other guest’s horses & our own horses, on the property. We have many horses grazing & roaming free not only in fields, but also along trails within our fenced boundaries. So keeping gates CLOSED is a must!
If you need help with trails & directions just ask. The Buffalo River Trail (BRT) offers miles and miles of scenic trails from mountaintops to river trails with hundreds of historic tales. Every trail has a story. We provide easy access; you can ride from the barn to BRT trails, or trailer down to the river if necessary. On these trails you are always subject to encounter wild game such as, deer, elk, turkey, feral hogs, birds, rabbit, squirrels, fox, coyote, bear, ground hog, the list is endless. You will also share the trials with other riders and the occasional hiker. Many of the people you will meet will be locals, or others who know this river like the back of their hands. They can provide lots of history and stories, whether they are true, I can’t guarantee that. Whether your first or your hundred & first visit here there is always something to learn about the river or this beautiful area. Locals & visitors alike enjoy the beauty and adventure. It’s our job to make sure you have the best experience possible. Most guests find that there is not enough daylight to take it all in. That is why we have so many repeat visitors. You can live here your entire life, like us, and still know that there is so much more to see & experience here. It takes a lifetime to enjoy it to the fullest. So please come, bring your horse, family, friends and always your camera, and let your adventure begin!
